Long before I retired from full time Law Enforcement with the Pine Bluff Police Department (AR), I saw a real need to, lose some weight, and put a little interest back into training.  I too, have been stuck in the classroom for hours listening to "instructors" droning on and on about topics they have no background in, nor do the care about... and I am sure many others have found themselves in the same situation.  It was even worse, when I was the one that arranged the training everyone had to attend.

When I started working in the schools, as a School Resource Officer, I had the opportunity to not only develop and present programs to kids of all ages, but to the teachers, administrators and staff from various school districts.  Being fresh out of "Instructor Development" school you know I worked up some great (by the numbers) lesson plans. I set out to wow and amaze everyone with my skills. The presentations were okay...not anything to write home about, but something was missing.  I had seen that "look" from my audience and I didn't like what I saw.

From then on out, I vowed to be different.  I would only arrange to have people that were knowledgeable and involved (as in passionate) with the topic they were to speak about. People that weren't afraid of being interesting or creative.  I wanted training that holds my interest, makes me laugh, makes me think, and gives me some new (or re-furbished) tools that will help me do my job better.
